Born June 29, 1992, Taurus S. Barksdale is a lifelong resident of Baltimore City, District 6. Taurus lost his close father at the age of 11. They both shared the same birthday. Taurus’ mother, Brenda Simmons, a Baltimore City teacher for 31 years, was a strong parent. The strength of his mother kept Taurus on a straight path.
Taurus attended Baltimore Junior Academy, Liberty Elementary, Callaway Elementary, and Garrison Middle School. All of which are located in District 6. Taurus attended many different elementary schools because of his bad behavior as a child. As a result of bad behavior Taurus repeated the first grade. Taurus is very transparent and loves to share his story as inspiration for the youth. Attending high school in Northeast Baltimore, Taurus chose to attend Reginald F. Lewis High School of Business & Law (RFL), because RFL offered a law pathway. Inspired in the third grade by the late Thurgood Marshall, Taurus realized at a young age that his goal and calling is to serve the people.
After graduating high school in 2011, Taurus attended Wesley College, located in Dover, DE. Taurus majored in Legal Studies and minored in Criminal Justice. In 2015, Taurus graduated with honors as a certified paralegal with accreditation from the American Bar Association. Taurus was selected as the Student of The Year for his major in 2015.
At the age of 27 Taurus is qualified to serve as a councilman. Throughout the years he has served in a number of professional capacities. While in college Taurus had the opportunity to work as a post-conviction death penalty paralegal for the Federal Public Defender's Office for the District of Delaware. Taurus has worked as an evictions paralegal and his last job was working as the legal administrator for a real estate development company. As of 2020 Taurus has resigned from his job taking a leap of faith to become your next councilman.
Taurus is a loving and dedicated father to his twins, Tori and Torren. The twins are 5 years old.
Taurus is a the Co-founder of the Baltimore Beautification Project (BBP). BBP is a non profit organization that conducts monthly large scale community cleanups.
